The Decor
We asked local photographers to come up with a concept for the theme of the new restaurant. Winner Robert Greenbank drew inspiration from the location and his artwork now stands proudly in our newly refurbished dining room.
"If you draw a radius of a few miles around the D Restaurant you will encompass an area that is rich with evidence of its own historic past be it social, economical or political.
Standing by the foreshore at Flint it is easy for the mind?s eye to envisage the passage of the Roman galleys or the Norse long ships as they moved up the River Dee. Nearby Flint Castle and Ewloe Castle stand testimony to the wars of the Welsh Princes with the English Kings.
At Greenfield Valley the wins of Bersingwerk abbey are all that remain of over 400 years of Cistercian monastic life whilst close by the industrial revolution is represented by amongst others Lower Cotton Mill where it is said over 300 apprentices were employed many of them under 10 years old.
At Llanerch Y Mor the once proud cruise ship Duke Of Lancaster has stood since 1979 seemingly moored in a sea of Greenfield.
From which ever direction you approach the area you will see on the horizon at Connah?s Quay the power station and the road bridge icons of the modern age. My concept was to attempt to capture just some of the areas rich history in my images." Robert Greenbank.
