Housekeeper Elaine and her Grandchildren Liam & Annalise at Chester Zoo.

“We seem to forget what a great day out Chester Zoo is, because it is right on our door step. I took my 2 grandchildrens for a day out during the Easter holidays and we all thoroughly enjoyed the day. The zoo is easy to get to, maybe 10 minutes from the hotel on the A41, plenty of free car parking and great value for a full day out with the children. As soon as you enter the zoo, the star attractions are the large family of elephants, truly something that you can stand and watch for hours. It never ceases to amaze me how resoursefull these massive yet beautiful creatures are. The bat house, where large varieties of bats fly freely around you, is a strange and surreal experience, one that may not be for everyone. Lions, tigers, penguins, giraffes, chips and monkeys are all here, but I think the favourite for us all was the meerkats. These things are just as cute close up as they are on the TV commercials. The day can be expensive if you do everything, but we prefer to take a packed lunch, take our time and enjoy what is on offer.”

Assistant Manager Donna and her partner Gary enjoy a day at the races.

“I always seem to work when it is Chester races, watch everyone getting glammed up and ready for what looks a wonderful day out and I have always been really jealous. This year I decided that myself and Gary would enjoy a day together at the races, if we won, we won, if not, what the hell! Gary got himself a new suit and I got a new outfit for the day. It is like picking something to wear for a wedding when picking something for the races. We got dropped off in town and had a couple of drinks in a pub, not to far from the racecourse. All of the pubs are busy, but everyone is in such a good mood that waiting to get served or being a little cramped didn’t seem to matter. The first race was 1.45pm so we made our way down to the course to make sure we had a decent spot in Tattersalls enclosure for the opener. The place was buzzing, the weather was brilliant, which makes a real difference. Pimms was flowing and I even got a glimpse of Frankie Dettori, what more could a girl want. We didn’t have a great deal of luck on the horses but that didn’t seem to matter. Although a 12/1 winner in the last gave us some spends to go and we had amazing Chinese food after the races. All in a great day out and I now see why everyone gets so excited and travels so far to come to Chester Races.”

Night out in Liverpool for singles!

Liverpool is a popular destination amongst the young, renowned for its vibrant and buzzing nightlife! Whatever you fancy doing, Liverpool has it all!

The reception team Hayley, Mary and Nikki had a girly night out in Liverpool

"When payday comes around we always try and sort some shifts out so that we can get a night out. Normally we have a night in Chester which is always great but as we were all off for the day, we decided to get the train from Hooton and head for the ‘big city’. Trains run every 15 minutes and it takes 25 minutes to get to Liverpool. We got off at James Street station and and headed down to the Albert Dock. We sampled a few cheeky glasses of Rose before having a spot to eat in Haha Grill. Food was great and excellent value for money. Although we had planned not to, we couldn’t resist a ‘little’ walk around Liverpool One. For girls this is shopping heaven! There is everything, all of the brands and labels and right in the city centre, brilliant. We then headed towards Mathew Street seeking a few bars to finish the day off in. This is great fun, these pubs are just perfect to people watch. The people of Liverpool are so warm, have wicked senses of humour and great fun to be around. The highlight of the night was watching a couple in there mid sixties sing ‘Summer Lovin’ on karaoke, massively out of key but bless them, so in love!! We weren’t dressed up for a night out as our plan was to come home on one of the late trains which we did, but Liverpool allows you to be yourself and to enjoy yourself."
